Written from an old 6th grade online journal. An old gaming account. I assume this ended up being handwritten later for homework.
Once upon a time
There lived a boy oh so bright
He lit up the night
He brought smiles to friends
He showed love and affection
Loved and cherished
The boy full of cheer
Yet no one stayed to brighten
This boy's night
Fractured skies
Torn seas
Lost dreams
The boy stayed in fright
The dark seemed unrelenting
Still the boy chose to spread light
Smiles all around
Turning frowns upside-down
The boy held a small light
The light to brighten his night
Off went the light
The boy cried and cried
Yet no one came.
I've never really been a poet, yet something about seeing little 12 year old me writing this—really hit something inside of me.
This also made me really wish I had access to my old journals. In my poetry class back then, I hardly even wrote poetry. I wrote long-form stories which the teacher was happy enough to have.
I even remember writing a story called ‘Evil Kanevil.’ The teacher asked me to pursue writing after reading the pages I wrote every class session. To me it was just a fun pass time for class.
Now I wish I could read it, too.
This was a bit random, but it was a fun share.

The small light going off... I just wanted one person to notice the dark around him before he had to cry that hard.
Thank you for sharing this treasure - your 12 year-old self in poetry. <3
